A Ghanaian man set South African social media alight on 9 August 2026 after posting a video in which he declared that South Africa is not a real country name but simply a geographical description.
In the clip shared on X by user @Sello_Libram, the speaker introduced himself as Ghanaian and argued that because the country's name refers to a region of the continent, South Africa has no distinct national identity. He pointed to countries such as Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Lesotho, saying they also sit in southern Africa, which, in his view, makes South Africa's name meaningless and confusing.
