South African news commentator and satirist Ongie Gusha had Mzansi clutching their sides after posting a mock testimony skit on TikTok on 17 August 2026. The video, shot in an indoor home-office setting decorated with vintage cameras, model vehicles and a South African flag, parodied Cat Matlala's appearance at the Madlanga Commission.

This comes after Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala appeared before the Madlanga Commission on Monday, 17 August. He opened up about his soured relationship with alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi. Matlala claimed Mogotsi contacted him after a December 2024 police raid on his home, allegedly posing as an official from the police minister’s office and later requesting money. Matlala said he eventually discovered Mogotsi was not an official and told the commission that he now “hates” him for the problems he allegedly caused.

Ongie's clip on her TikTok account was filmed in a mock deposition format, complete with printed documents and bottled water on the table, perfectly mimicking the tense atmosphere of a courtroom interrogation. Gusha has built a loyal following by recreating scenes from the commission, and this instalment did not disappoint.

Cat Matlala's testimony under the spotlight

In the skit, Gusha portrayed a witness being grilled about his relationship with a "Mr Mukosi." The fictional interrogator pressed further, drawing out a tangled account of how the relationship soured after a 2025 arrest, and how the witness kept a man close despite knowing what he was allegedly doing, on the advice of a "Mr Taylor."
