A local comedian posted a skit on 17 August 2026 that had the whole country doubled over. The clip, shared on the TikTok account @unwokepope, was aimed at Mel Viljoen's emotional courtroom meltdown after her husband Peet's bail denial, with the judge ruling he posed a flight risk.

The comedian played a frantic, over-the-top version of Mel, calling out to her husband from his sister's house. In the spoof, "Mel" is completely baffled by the judge's rambling ruling, convinced it made no sense, especially given that Peet had just returned from a trip to Mexico. The comedian referred to Peet throughout as "Pateet," which quickly became part of the joke for viewers.

Dramatic "Mel" Vows to Fight On

Despite the bail refusal, the fictional Mel in the skit refuses to give up. She reassures her husband that she is standing by him and that they will take the fight to the High Court on appeal to clear his name. The performance leaned into Mel's dramatic real-life courtroom tears, with the skit clearly referencing what many viewers had already seen and discussed online.
