A South African man's night out at a Springboks match turned into one of the most unexpectedly funny stories to hit the internet this week.
Thabiso Majavu, known on Instagram as @thabisomajavu, attended a rugby match at Ellis Park on 25 August 2026 with his wife. He had no idea the evening would later leave him doing detective work on his own videos.
According to his post, a group of white supporters sat beside the couple and struck up conversation in Afrikaans. Thabiso does not speak the language. That detail, however, appeared to have been irrelevant on the night.

When videos from the evening began surfacing, Thabiso was stunned. Footage showed him mid-conversation, laughing, gesturing and looking entirely at ease, apparently holding his own in a language he has never learned. The crowd around him was in stitches.

He wrote that he watched the clips like a detective investigating a crime, asking himself who the confident man on screen was and who had taught him Afrikaans. The only words he could actually recall saying were "Boerewors… Vereeniging… Aartappels," which translates to "farmer's sausage… a town in Gauteng… potatoes." Whatever he built around those three words, it apparently worked.
He jokingly concluded that Ellis Park had "temporarily downloaded the Afrikaans language pack" into his brain, and pleaded with anyone who witnessed the conversation not to tell him what he said. He preferred, he said, to live in peace.
