“This Is on Point”: Mzansi Can’t Believe the Accuracy After American Foodie Cooks Full SA Feast

Emilia Kim is a digital creator based in the USA with a simple but ambitious mission: host a different country's cuisine every week. On 1 September 2026, South Africa was on the menu.

Kim, who goes by @theemiliakim on Instagram and has visited 54 countries, put together one of the most ambitious South African spreads seen outside the country. She wanted the table to reflect how diverse South African food truly is, so she did not hold back.

Seven colours and so much more

She started with the classic Sunday seven colours plate, piling rice alongside chakalaka, creamed spinach, beetroot, butternut and potato salad. She also prepared umqa, a traditional dish made from pumpkin and maize meal. From Durban came bunny chow, a hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with curry. She added bobotie, the Cape Malay baked mince dish with its signature topping and sweet flavour, alongside a potjiekos stew cooked in a cast iron pot and a braai spread.

For dessert, she could not settle on just one. She made three: a peppermint crisp tart layered with tennis biscuits, a classic milk tart and a warm malva pudding with apricot jam. The table also featured South African drinks and condiments, including Mrs Ball's chutney.
