Bloemfontein actress Melane Hamman stood before a boardroom of African delegates in Accra, Ghana, and delivered a heartfelt defence of South Africa. The speech, shared on 8 September 2026, was part of the Africa Monologue Challenge (AMC) Season 3, where contestants were asked to present their countries to fellow participants.

Hamman, a voiceover artist, actress, and digital creator from Bloemfontein in the Free State, did not hold back. She spoke about South Africa's diversity as its greatest strength, pushing back against the negative stereotypes she said were unfairly defining the nation.

"We cannot allow one problem to identify a nation," she said. "As we know, no African country is perfect."

She drew on the words of Nelson Mandela, calling education the greatest power, and closed with a call for people to experience South Africa firsthand and discover the spirit of Ubuntu for themselves.

From Bloemfontein to the Continental stage

Hamman's path to Ghana was no small feat. Out of more than 2,000 entries submitted from across Africa and the diaspora, she advanced through multiple stages to become South Africa's official finalist on the continental stage. She is represented by Brave Talent Management and has worked across television, film, presenting, and dance, including a starring role in the 2026 crime thriller series The Passing.

In her caption, she wrote that she did not just want to speak about South Africa, but about:

"The country I know, the country I love, and the story I believe we should share with Africa and the world."
