Four people lost their lives in a school transport accident linked to JCS Independent School on 8 October 2026. The crash occurred on the R57 at the R59 bridge and claimed three learners and the school's director, who was behind the wheel at the time.

JCS Independent School confirmed the tragedy through an official statement on Facebook the following day. The school said other learners injured in the accident were receiving medical care, and that all affected families had been contacted privately.
Out of respect for the bereaved, the school chose not to release the names of those who died without the explicit permission of their families. JCS Management and the School Governing Body reported the incident to both the South African Police Service and the Department of Education. All academic and extra-mural activities at the school were immediately suspended following the news.

The school also arranged for professional counselling to be made available on school premises to support learners, staff, and families processing the loss.

In their statement, JCS Management urged the public not to circulate unverified information, photographs, or videos related to the accident on social media. The statement closed with the words:
