A matriculant caused a stir online after sharing a video detailing the sky-high costs involved in preparing for her matric dance.
The clip, shared by TikTok user @nelzz.vlgs, garnered many views and comments from social media users who were stunned.
The young woman gave her breakdown while busy taking off her braids at home. She started with the ticket, which cost R1,300 for herself and R1,800 if a person was going with a date. Her dress, she said, was R40K, which meant that for her and her twin sister, it worked out to R80K.

Other costs included R600 for her nails and R200 for her cornrows, which she had to have underneath her wig. She wasn't sure about the makeup price as she was not the one who found the person. The car for the night cost R40k, and she also got her teeth whitened.
She said the flowers cost her R1,200 but were not worth it. The after-party outfit was from Shein, and a guy at the party asked her if she was going to a wedding, saying it looked like a wedding dress. She concluded by saying she booked a venue for her photoshoot because she was uncomfortable with people seeing where she lived.

Some were keen to see the dress that cost R40K and joked that the young woman's family must be very rich. Others also pointed out that everything she had mentioned had to be multiplied by two, as she has a twin.
