"Crazy, I have no shame in this, by the way. And it's something that my dad has always instilled in me. He said 'When it gets tough, come back home like please," she explained that she always had a home with her family to come back to, even though she had the freedom to live her own life.

How she left the relationship

Mandisa went on to explain what had happened and how, on her drive home, she suddenly felt emotional. She stated that it wasn’t just about what she was dealing with, but about everything she had allowed herself to go through. She kept wondering how she missed the signs, how she let love and someone’s potential blind her, and how she let the situation get so far before seeing the person for who they really were.

She blamed herself for not being smarter, because she always thought she knew what she wanted. She couldn’t believe she let someone treat her badly for so long. But then she reminded herself that this was her first marriage and the first time she faced anything like this. She tried to give herself grace and told herself that at least she took action instead of staying stuck.

She shared more about her partner, explaining that for a long time, this person became such a big part of her life that people didn’t see her on her own anymore. It was always her name and his name together. She reached a point where she didn’t feel like her own person and felt lost whenever he wasn’t around.

Eventually, she saw things clearly. She realised who he truly was and how much she had given to someone who didn’t give back. She didn’t regret giving so much, but she finally understood that it was time to stop.

She felt grateful that she had stopped everything now instead of years later, especially before children came into the picture. She kept thinking about how much more time she could have lost. She believed that everything happening was God protecting her, guiding her away from something that wasn’t meant for her.
