A spare match ticket turned into a life-changing afternoon for one young boy outside FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

On 15 August 2026, Joshua Rubin was heading into the Kaizer Chiefs vs Mamelodi Sundowns match when he spotted a young boy named Lebo outside the stadium. Lebo was not there to watch the game. He was collecting cans to exchange for money, a way of getting by while living with his 18-year-old sister who looked after him. Rubin had an extra ticket and made a decision on the spot.

A day Lebo will never forget

Rather than sell the spare seat or leave it empty, Rubin walked Lebo straight through the gates. Inside, the two shared hot chocolate, coffee and three hot dogs before settling in to watch the match. The game itself ended 1-1, but for Lebo, the scoreline was probably the least memorable part of the day.

In the video Rubin shared on Instagram, Lebo is quiet but wide-eyed throughout, answering Rubin’s questions with short, honest answers. When asked after the final whistle what his favourite part was, he did not hesitate: the three hot dogs.
