Katherine Jones had spent 18 months building what she imagined would be the wedding of her dreams in Tuscany. She had booked the venue, planned a welcome dinner, a ceremony, a pool party, and a honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast. Then, just seven days before the big trip, her partner of six and a half years ended the relationship.
Most people might have cancelled. Katherine did not.
She packed her bags and flew to Italy anyway, bringing 30 friends and family members with her. The welcome dinner went ahead. So did the ceremony. So did the pool party. The only thing missing was a groom.
The trip that could have been the worst experience of her life became, by most accounts, something far more memorable. Katherine reportedly later turned what was supposed to be her honeymoon into what she called a “mummymoon,” swapping the romantic getaway for a trip along the Amalfi Coast with her mum instead.

Katherine’s story goes viral
When she shared her experience on TikTok under the handle @kathjay89, the response was enormous. Her videos racked up tens of millions of views, with people across the world drawn to her refusal to let the cancellation define the occasion.
The story was also reshared by Instagram account @pubity on 9 September 2026, introducing her story to an entirely new audience and sparking fresh conversation in the comments.
