The family, known on TikTok as @africanamericanfam, posted the video on 24 September 2026. It quickly captured the attention of South African viewers, many of whom were seeing the newest family member's face for the very first time.
The clip opened with the family being fitted into their outfits before showing all four members in full traditional dress. The Logans open up about celebrating their newborn's first Heritage Day
The Briefly News team spoke to the glowing parents, who shared how their last-minute vision came together into a meaningful cultural milestone for their growing family.
When asked about the experience of designing and fitting the custom Xhosa regalia for their newborn’s very first cultural celebration, they shared:
“The funny thing is, the whole thing was extremely last minute! Our family is kind of known for being late and never being fully prepared 😂. We only came up with the idea for the photoshoot about three or four days beforehand, and we actually designed our outfits the day before the shoot. We went to Studio Couture in Maitland, Cape Town, showed them some inspiration pictures and explained the kind of look we were going for.
They took all of our measurements and helped us put the ideas together. The gentleman who assisted us was incredibly friendly and even added some of his own creative touches to Judy’s dress that we weren’t expecting, but they ended up making the dress even more beautiful. Everything was completely custom-made for our family, including our newborn’s tiny outfit, and somehow they had everything finished and ready for us the very next day! It was honestly amazing seeing an idea that we had thrown together at the last minute come to life so beautifully.”
Reflecting on how it felt stepping out together as a family of four to celebrate this cultural milestone, they noted:
“It felt really special, especially because this was our daughter’s very first Heritage Day. We’ve celebrated Heritage Day before, but experiencing it now as a family of four gave it a completely different meaning. Seeing all four of us dressed together and seeing our daughter wearing her Xhosa regalia for the first time was definitely one of those moments we’ll be able to look back on for years. It wasn’t just about taking beautiful photos; it was about documenting a piece of our family’s story and celebrating where we come from.”
Sharing the message they hope their children take away about embracing both their Xhosa and American roots as they grow up, they added:
“We want our children to grow up knowing that they never have to choose one side of who they are. They have two cultures, two histories and two sides of their family that they can be proud of. We want them to understand, experience, and carry their Xhosa heritage with pride, while also embracing their American roots and the experiences that come with that side of their family. For us, that mixture is what makes our family special. We hope that as they grow older, they understand where they come from, stay connected to both sides of their heritage and eventually pass those traditions and stories down to their own children.
