The national day, observed annually, honours South Africa's cultural diversity and living heritage, including oral traditions, indigenous knowledge and customs handed down across generations. This year's official celebrations took place in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape, under the theme "Celebrating Our Living Heritage: Strengthening the Ties That Bind Us."

Reality TV personality Tirelo Nonhlanhla Kale marked a personal milestone, sharing photos of herself and her baby boy dressed for the occasion. She greeted her followers in several South African languages, turning her Heritage Day post into both a cultural celebration and a tender mother-and-son moment.

Cheslin Kolbe celebrates with wife Layla after jaw injury
Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe spent Heritage Day at home with his wife, Layla Kolbe, weeks after a serious injury cut short his involvement on the field. Kolbe was hospitalised on Saturday, 5 September, after breaking his jaw during the Springboks' 29-24 victory over New Zealand at FNB Stadium. He left the field in the ninth minute after a head injury assessment, following All Blacks loose forward Luke Jacobson running over him during a tackle, and Kolbe never returned.
On Heritage Day, the couple spent time with June van Wyk and Springbok Kobus van Wyk. June shared photos from the get-together with the caption:
"Lovely catching up with you guys 🫶🏼 Can't believe how fast time flies and how big the kids are. So special!"
