What is Moyo wanted for?
Originally arrested by Florida SAPS for armed business robbery, Moyo was being transported from the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court to Boksburg Prison on Friday. Along the way, Detective Warrant Officer Vuyisile Sintwa and Sergeant Simon Masenya, both members of the SAPS Trio Task Team, stopped at a BP Garage.
The detectives, who were both attached to the Florida SAPS, were then gunned down by Moyo in the vehicle. Sergeant Masenya died at the scene, while Warrant Officer Sintwa was declared dead on arrival at Milpark Hospital.
Moyo fled in the marked police vehicle, stealing the detectives’ firearms and cellphones. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Horizon, Roodepoort.
The country has experienced a few cases in which officers have been killed this year. In April 2025, an officer was shot multiple times in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal. A month later, a female officer died after she was shot, allegedly by her husband, who then tried to take his own life.
