KWAZULU-NATAL — South Africans were disappointed in two South African Police Service officers who were arrested over the weekend in KwaZulu-Natal for drunk driving.

According to SABC News, the police officers were off duty when they were arrested on 30 August 2025. One officer was from Port Edward and was arrested after he was found with alcohol of 1.05 milligrams per litre, six times above the legal limit. The second officer, stationed at the Southport Police station, was found with a level of 0.85 milligrams per litre, four times above the legal limit. Both are expected to appear in court soon.

Police officers arrested in 2025

The police arrested a police officer and four other suspects in Basrberton, Mpumalanga, on 22 March 2025, for illegal mining. The police officer was arrested as part of Operation Vala Umgodi. The police searched his car and found equipment used for illegal mining activities.

A total of 10 police officers were arrested in Ekurhuleni for various crimes on 4 August. Six Ekurhuleni Metro Police Officers and four Tsakane Police Station officers were arrested during a raid in Edenvale. They were charged with theft and corruption.

A police officer in KwaZulu-Natal was suspended for wearing political regalia, in violation of the South African Police Service Act. The officer allegedly participated in political events and was directed to stay at home pending an investigation into his conduct.

SAPS officer arrested for murder

In a related article, Briefly News reported that a police officer from Limpopo was arrested for her alleged involvement in the death of her son and his girlfriend. The incident occurred in Mokomene-Mashaha, Botlokwa.

Police found the body of the 25-year-old man riddled with bullets. His girlfriend was taken to the hospital, where she died of her wounds.
