KWAZULU-NATAL – A truck driver passed away after a devastating multi-vehicle collision on the N3 highway, Pietermaritzburg.

The driver died after his truck caught alight following the accident near Peacevale on 14 September 2025, in the evening. Emergency Services are currently on scene as responders attempt to contain the blaze, which has forced the closure of multiple lanes, and prevent further tragedy.

How did the accident occur?

According to information gathered, the truck driver lost control while descending the N3 towards Pietermaritzburg. With the driver unable to stop it, the truck reportedly collided with another truck and two passenger vehicles. Some reports indicate that he crashed into five other vehicles.

The impact of the crash caused one of the trucks to burst into flames. The driver of the truck, who was trapped inside, succumbed to his injuries despite efforts made to rescue him.

The accident has forced the closure of multiple lanes as emergency workers attempted to clear the wreckage and attend to the others involved in the accident.

At this stage, it cannot be confirmed how many injuries have been suffered as the scene is still live. More details will be provided as they come to light.
