KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is suing forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan for R5-million over his recent statements.

Mkhwanazi has been in the spotlight since his explosive press briefing, where he alleged that organised crime groups have infiltrated the highest levels of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government. Hours before his appearance before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi became the topic of discussion again after he took legal action against popular forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan.

According to eTV journalist Dasen Thathiah, Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi is seeking R5 million in damages from O’Sullivan for his statements on several media platforms. O’Sullivan claimed that General Mkhwanazi is a criminal who runs a hit squad and is involved in corruption.

What you should know about the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry

Meanwhile, Briefly News reported that the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development revealed how much the Commission of Inquiry into General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's allegations will cost.

The Commission is expected to cost hundreds of millions of Rands in six months for the tight period that President Cyril Ramaphosa set for it to achieve its objectives.

The Madlanga Commission’s first public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, 17 September 2025 at 10am.
