GAUTENG – Connor (25) and Cassidy (23) Moodley will be laid to rest on Saturday, 20 September 2025, a week after they passed away following an accident in the Northern Cape.
The sisters were involved in an accident on 14 September 2025 in the Klein Karoo, near Britstown. They were travelling back from a cousin’s graduation at the time.
The older sister, Storm (27), was injured in the crash and rushed to the hospital. She has since been discharged and is recovering at home in Gauteng.
The sisters were travelling home from Cape Town
Speaking to IOL, their uncle, Lance Poonawassy, provided more details about the tragedy. He said that his nieces drove to Cape Town to celebrate with family and were returning home when the accident happened.
“It was my son’s graduation at the University of the Western Cape. We had such a wonderful day celebrating. They are just five cousins, we’re quite a small family, and they really wanted to celebrate with him, and drove to Cape Town,” he said.

Connor and Cassidy died en route to a hospital
Poonawassy also explained that investigations were underway into the accident, but that no foul play was suspected.
He noted that while they were not sure what transpired, they do know that Connor was driving and was flung out of the vehicle with Cassidy following the crash. They both died en route to the hospital.
Storm, who sustained injuries to her face and body, was able to contact her family thanks to a passing motorist who gave her a cellphone to use.
The family then travelled from Johannesburg to the Karoo to recover the bodies and bring Storm home.
“My nieces were bubbly, caring and loving girls. Everyone who met them loved them. Connor and Cassidy will be missed,” he said.
