SAWS Issues Yellow Level Warning for Thunderstorms and Disruptive Weather

JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG — The South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned that the severe weather conditions, which began on the weekend of 15 and 16 November 2025 in the country, persist. A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued.

According to the South African Weather Services' Facebook page, parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, Mpumalanga, and the Western Cape are expecting severe thunderstorms leading to localised damage to infrastructure, informal settlements, and which would disrupt municipal and essential services.

Weather conditions for the week

The rest of the country, including the North West, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Free State, and Limpopo, has a 30% chance of isolated showers. Parts of the country will experience cool conditions on 19 November, and this includes KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and parts of the Eastern Cape.

Conditions on the western side of the country, including the Western Cape and the Northern Cape, as well as parts of the Free State, will be dry with warm conditions expected in parts of the Eastern Cape, cool conditions expected in the Western Cape, and hot conditions expected in the northern parts of the Northern Cape.

In a related article, Briefly News reported that an elderly woman was left homeless in Tzaneen, Limpopo, after continuous heavy rainfall battered the province. A video of the incident went viral on social media, and it sparked discussions of concern.

The woman, who lives in Vaalwater Extension 5, is shown desperately trying to salvage her home. However, the floodwaters are relentless, as the inside and outside of her home are flooded with water. She tries in vain to scoop the water out of her home.

Siytg Africans were not impressed with the lack of help for the woman.

"Extremely heartbreaking. People should not be living in shacks. The government needs to place them in proper houses. These gogos have served our country for many years," a netizen said.
