Gayton McKenzie Claims He Gave the Tip-Off That Cracked the Reiger Park Shooting Case

SOUTH AFRICA - Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie has revealed that he played a direct role in helping authorities arrest suspects in the Reiger Park shooting, in which four people lost their lives.
In a video shared on his X account, McKenzie said he was in India when he received word that someone in the community had critical information about the attack.
"We only want Gayton," say community
McKenzie said the informant was unwilling to speak to the police and explained he had one condition:

"We want to talk to no one but Gayton McKenzie."
He then said he got on a call with the informant, who named those responsible and provided details about what had taken place. McKenzie then tried to reach the Minister of Police, who did not answer. He turned to Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, who was on the ground, and passed on everything he had been told.
McKenzie steered investigators toward the right suspects
Lesufi connected him to the provincial police commissioner, who confirmed they were already tracking three suspects. McKenzie said he told Lesufi they were pursuing the wrong people, and he sent through the names of those the community had identified as the real perpetrators, along with additional information he had gathered.
He added that one of the people assisting police with the operation turned out to be the actual killer. Lesufi later called McKenzie to thank him for his help in getting the right individuals arrested.
McKenzie also said he received a video from the Reiger Park community, which he forwarded to relevant authorities. He was careful not to blame residents for going to him rather than the police.
"You cannot blame the community because they didn't trust the police. Gangsters work with some cops," McKenzie said. "The only reason this case was cracked open is because of the community of Reiger Park."
He pushed back against criticism of the PA, saying his party does not rest when lives are at stake.
