LIMPOPO — Detectives are considering adding a rape charge against a suspect accused of killing his elderly mother in Xikukwani, Limpopo. Authorities are examining potential sexual violence in addition to the homicide case.
According to IOL, Giyani law enforcement officers were dispatched to the crime scene around 1:00 AM on Wednesday, where medical responders pronounced an 82-year-old victim dead. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated that the deceased suffered severe trauma to her face and skull while inside her residence.
Son arrested following claims of finding injured mother
The 48-year-old suspect, who resided with the victim, contacted authorities claiming he discovered his injured mother on her bed after returning from an early morning night out. Investigators subsequently tied the son directly to the crime and took him into custody. Law enforcement officials noted that supplementary sexual assault charges will depend on upcoming forensic findings.

The accused is scheduled to stand before the Giyani Magistrate's Court. Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Jan Scheepers denounced the violent act, promising that officers will exhaust all legal avenues to ensure full accountability as inquiries proceed.
Second suspected serial rapist arrested
