GAUTENG — A woman's body was found partly clothed at the Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa on the morning of 26 September 2026, bringing the total number of female bodies discovered in the Ekurhuleni area to ten.
SABC News journalist Heidi Giokos reported the find on X, noting that the Tembisa discovery also pushes the broader Gauteng figure to 11 female bodies recorded in recent weeks.
A pattern emerging in Ekurhuleni
The latest death follows a deeply troubling series of discoveries in the region. In mid-September, five women were found simultaneously in Kempton Park, prompting immediate alarm. Four more bodies were subsequently recovered in quick succession in the area, raising fears among residents and community leaders that a serial killer could be targeting women in Ekurhuleni.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) publicly dismissed those serial killer allegations. Shortly after, authorities announced the arrest of three suspects believed to be connected to the murder of one of the victims.
SAPS response and ongoing concern
Despite the arrests, the discovery of yet another body has done little to ease public anxiety surrounding the safety of women in the area. The circumstances surrounding the latest victim's death, including her identity and cause of death, had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
The Mooifontein Cemetery, where the body was found, has now become a location associated with multiple such discoveries, intensifying calls for a comprehensive police response across the affected communities in Ekurhuleni.
