GAUTENG — A 34-year-old Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officer has been found dead in Finetown, Grasmere, after being abducted during a carjacking in Lenasia South on Saturday, 27 September 2026.

The incident was reported by journalist Everson Luhanga on 28 September 2026. According to the report, Kwanele Buthelezi was seated inside his Hyundai Elantra at the intersection of Golden Highway and Wimbledon Road when armed suspects seized the vehicle with him still inside.

How the abduction unfolded

Buthelezi's vehicle was later discovered in Finetown. His body was subsequently found in the same area, confirming the worst fears of colleagues and family. No arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large.
