GAUTENG — Intimidation claims took centre stage at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 13 October 2026, when prosecutor Velile Makasana entered an affidavit revealing how ex-South African Police Service (SAPS) deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya allegedly confronted a key witness while a complaint was being filed against him. Sibiya stands accused of victimising two teenagers and recently resigned from the force.

According to The Citizen, the statement, submitted on behalf of the complainant Mr M—the father of the 16-year-old minor involved in the case—disclosed that Sibiya telephoned him on 26 August directly as he sat inside the Sandton Police Station lodging a criminal docket.

According to the affidavit, this exchange followed an earlier interaction where Sibiya boasted that he could wipe out Mr M’s family. Mr M explained that the call left him deeply alarmed given the former high-ranking official's broad reach and authority within law enforcement.

The court heard these details during continuing bail arguments following Sibiya’s sudden departure from the police force on 12 October 2026. Authorities initially apprehended the former general at a Sandton adult entertainment venue on 21 September on charges including human trafficking, rape, and weapons infractions. Sibiya maintains his innocence on all counts.
