Nigerian mixed martial artist Israel Adesanya fell short in his bid to regain the UFC middleweight title on Sunday, losing to Dricus Du Plessis.

The grudge match was decided in Australia as the reigning champion in the category successfully defended his title.

DDP, as the South African is fondly called, defeated the 'Last Stylebender' by submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:38 of Round 4.

Boxing pundit Bamidele Bakare stated that the Nigerian fighter lost concentration in the course of the bout.

Bakare told Briefly News:

"He (Adesanya) basically got distracted. He needed more concentration. He didn’t learn from the first take downs.
"He should have known that DDP would still come with it and he should have know that was his game plan to lead him to the choke."

Nigerian fans blame drake

Meanwhile, the social media space has been sent into a meltdown as fans from Nigeria continue to blame Drake for 'Izzy's' loss.

Canadian rapper Drake, also famous for his high stakes on sporting events, had placed his money on Adesanya.

Vanguard reports that in what is now an infamous 'Drake Curse', the 37-year-old wagered a staggering $450,000 on “Last Stylebender” to defeat UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis in the main event.

What you need to know about Israel Adesanya

Isreal Adesanya's challenges began at the age of 10 when his family, including his parents and four younger siblings, relocated to New Zealand in 1999. During his high school years at Rotorua Boys' High School, where notable sports stars such as former England rugby union captain Dylan Hartley and several New Zealand All Blacks also emerged, he faced racist bullying.

The impact was so profound that he chose to leave his computer science degree program at 18 and pursue a career in kickboxing instead. He went on to build an impressive 32-0 amateur record.

Adesanya also ventured into professional boxing, claiming victory in the New Zealand Super8 Boxing tournament in both 2014 and 2015. His boxing record includes 5 wins and one controversial loss by points.

In December 2017, he signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the premier organization in MMA. Two months later, he made a stunning debut by knocking out Australia's Rob Wilkinson at UFC 221 in Perth.

Drake rewards pregnant woman

Briefly News earlier reported that Drake recently made another kind gesture and vowed to give a fan some money.

A pregnant woman attended the rapper's concert and held up a sign asking him to be her rich baby daddy, and he promised to make it happen and then some.

Drake's controversies and being caught sliding into baddies' DMs often take the attention away from all the good things he does.
