Barnsley players threatens to slap players
However, his opposite number, Clarke, was far from impressed after his boys were given a tough awakening on the quality of Premier League football.
Clarke blasted his charges for failing to put their best foot forward.
"They’re a quality team, but we’re very disappointed in our performance. We haven’t done ourselves justice - that was my fear tonight coming here," he said, as quoted by the Mirror.
The 46-year-old then threatened to slap any of his players who would criticise a Premier League team.
"If I ever hear one of my players tell me Premier League players when they’re watching a game and they’re saying they’re poor, I’ll be giving them a slap because they’re miles off."
What next for Barnsley and Manchester United?
The League One side will resume their promotion campaign against Burton as they seek to qualify for Championship football next season. Manchester United, meanwhile, will travel to Selhurst Park - where they lost 4-0 last season - to face Crystal Palace.
