Trippier, who has had to work his way back into Eddie Howe's plans after much talk about a possible summer exit, started alongside Fabian Schar, Lewis Hall, and Dan Burn in defence.
Why Trippier wore mismatched boots vs Manchester City
In the 15th minute, the retired England international needed a change of boots after an incident with Jack Grealish. Trippier, however, only changed one boot, leaving fans surprised as he returned to play with two different sets.
The 34-year-old rocked both Puma and Adidas boots after choosing to swap only one of them. GMS reports that Mario Balotelli has previously won boots of different colours as part of a marking strategy.
Footy Headlines adds that Trippier recently ended his 10-year partnership with Adidas and might be looking to woo other sponsors. He returned for the second half wearing the purple Puma Ultra cleat.
The 1-1 result maintained Manchester City's unbeaten start to the season but saw them surrender the top spot to Liverpool. Newcastle are further back in seventh with 11 points.
