Mbappe on issue with Deschamps
In an interview with Canal+, the France captain addressed his absence from the national team.
"In September, I asked the coach not to go. I had just arrived in Madrid. I had had a super short vacation. The coach insisted that I come, it didn't go very well. But it's still the French team," he said via 90min.
Mbappe says the coach didn't call him up in October because of injury, but he doesn't know why he wasn't called up in November.
"It's the coach's decision, I stand behind him. I respect his decision. He's the boss. I wanted to go, but I can't say why I wasn't called up."
Mbappe played a major role in France's 2018 World Cup win and scored a hat-trick in the 2022 final in Qatar.
He has scored 48 goals in 86 appearances for the three-time World Cup champions, per Transfermarkt. Only Olivier Giroud and Thierry Henry have scored more goals.
