Liverpool dropped points for the second game in a row in their pursuit of the 2024/2025 Premier League title after they were held to a two-all draw by Fulham on Saturday evening.

The Reds had to dig deep to rescue a point against the London side after Andrew Robertson was sent off after just 17 minutes.

The full-back was shown a direct red card after he was adjudged to have fouled Harry Wilson as the last man. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviewed the incident and agreed it was a clear denial of a goalscoring opportunity (DOGSO).

"The referee issued a red card to Robertson for a foul on Wilson, which denied a goal-scoring opportunity. VAR checked to confirm the red card and that Wilson was in an onside position," explained the Premier League on X.

Why Roberston will miss no EPL game despite red card

However, and rather luckily for Robertson and his manager, Arne Slot, the Scot will miss no Premier League despite the sending-off at Anfield.

Direct red cards in the Premier League often result in three-match bans, but the rules are a little bit different when a player is sent off for a DOGSO offence. The FA rule book explains that a player will only miss one game.

How many games will Andrew Robertson miss?

Unlike yellow cards, red cards are transferrable to games in the same division, and thus Robertson will miss Liverpool's Carabao quarter-final game against Southampton. He will then be available for selection when the Reds face Tottenham in North London on Sunday next week.

This same rule was applied when Arsenal's William Saliba was sent off against Bournemouth in October. The French defender only missed one game for his DOGSO offence.

Saturday's two-all draw leaves Slot's charges five points clear at the top. Chelsea could cut down the gap to two points if they beat Brentford in the late Sunday kick-off.
