Orlando Pirates have reportedly included strict behavioural clauses in midfielder Sipho Mbule’s contract to manage concerns over his off-field discipline.

This move comes after a history of issues that have followed the 27-year-old since his time at SuperSport United, including during his recent loan spell at Sekhukhune United from Mamelodi Sundowns.

While Mbule’s signing by Pirates was widely reported, the new contract terms represent the club’s proactive approach to safeguarding their investment and ensuring that his off-field behaviour does not affect his performances.

Mbule's history of ill-discipline

Mbule has faced allegations of alcohol abuse and professionalism concerns during his career. At Sekhukhune United, the club ended his loan early due to recurring issues, despite his solid contribution of 17 appearances, two goals, and three assists.

According to Soccer Laduma, Pirates have put these strict conditions in place to keep Mbule disciplined and focused throughout the season. Sources disclose that Pirates added specific clauses to Mbule’s one-year deal to safeguard both the player and the club in case he reverts to past behaviour.

New Pirates coach, a huge admirer of Mbule

Pirates’ new coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, a known admirer of Mbule’s talent from their time at Marumo Gallants, believes strong management and support can help unlock the midfielder’s potential. In a candid interview, Ouaddou said:

"Mbule is a fantastic player, but his behaviour requires careful management. Players like him need someone close to guide their lifestyle and keep them on track."

Despite past behavioural setbacks, Mbule still has the opportunity to impress and earn a spot in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations if he performs well at Pirates.
