Kaizer Chiefs have continued to improve their squad this summer as they announced the signing of a former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker as they prepare to face the Brazilians.

The Glamour Boys have signed nine players already this season, including Flavio Silva, former Orlando Pirates stars Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako, with their latest addition making it 10 new players that have joined the Soweto giants this summer.

Nasreddine Nabi-led side is one of the most active Betway Premiership clubs in the transfer market with loads of new signings.

Kaizer Chiefs sign Maboe on a free transfer

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Lebohang Maboe has rejoined the Soweto giants after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

Maboe decided to leave the Brazilians when his contract ended with the club in July, and has been without a club since then, before returning to Amakhosi on a free transfer.

The South African international came through the Soweto giants' academy and has played for different clubs in the Premier Soccer League.

Kaizer Chiefs released an official statement on their website to confirm the signing of Maboe on a free transfer on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

"Kaizer Chiefs have officially signed midfielder Lebohang Maboe, marking their 10th acquisition of the current season," the club statement reads.
"Maboe, who was part of the Club’s youth development academy during his teenage years, returns to Naturena after stints with SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Maritzburg United.

"Over the course of his distinguished career in the Premier Soccer League, he has collected several trophies and accolades."

Maboe's move to Kaizer Chiefs sparked reactions from Amakhosi supporters on social media.

Briefly News also reported that a former Orlando Pirates star has decided to join Mamelodi Sundowns this summer.

The ex-Bucs player decided to leave a Premier Soccer League side for the Betway Premiership champion.
