With club football paused for international duty, the Soweto giants currently have only one player away representing his country during the break, which is summer signing Flavio da Silva, who was called up by Guinea-Bissau.

The break comes as the Glamour Boys ride a wave of momentum, having gone into the pause on a three-game unbeaten run in the CAF Confederation Cup and the Betway Premiership, following a brief poor run of form in both competitions and also in the Carling Knockout Cup.

Although the Soweto giants were eliminated from the Carling Knockout Cup by bitter rivals, Stellenbosch FC, in the round of 16, they remain unbeaten in their last nine successive matches across all competitions in regulation time. Their last competitive outing was a 4-1 league win over Siwelele FC on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Mayo concerned about Amakhosi after international break

Mayo believes Kaizer Chiefs will be affected by the upcoming FIFA break, noting that friendlies do not match official games in intensity. However, he added that friendlies can help players avoid rustiness and suggested the team should continue playing them. Mayo also highlighted the importance of ending the year on a high before the AFCON break, which will last from December to January.

On the domestic front, Mayo said Chiefs still have a strong chance of winning the Betway Premiership, as leaders Mamelodi Sundowns have not dominated this season and face pressure due to having played more games than other teams.
