Nigerian club Katsina United has addressed reports claiming defender Chinedu Ozor regained consciousness after being declared dead, following a medical emergency that claimed the footballer's life.

Ozor collapsed during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes at Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Tuesday, 11 August 2026. He was taken to K-Dara Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The situation took another turn when reports circulated on Wednesday suggesting that Ozor had shown signs of movement while his body was at the morgue. The claims quickly spread online, prompting widespread confusion over what had happened to the 27-year-old.

Katsina United responds to reports

Katsina United has now rejected the claims that Ozor regained consciousness.

“We have seen reports claiming that Chinedu later regained consciousness or ‘came back to life’,” the club said.
“We understand that people desperately wanted this to be true. We all did. But sadly, those reports are not true.”

The club said Ozor's family had requested further medical confirmation before his body was taken to the morgue.

“They were a family desperately hoping that somehow, against all odds, their loved one was still with them,” Katsina United said.

Club appeals for restraint

Katsina United urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims while the family mourns.

“Behind every post, every headline and every video is a grieving family,” the club said.

The club added that Ozor should be remembered for the person he was, rather than the speculation surrounding his final moments.
