WESTERN CAPE - A Cape Town family is at the centre of a deeply disturbing case after allegations emerged that they had been selling their 11-year-old daughter for sex for as little as R100.

The claims came to light through a video filmed inside the Masincedane Informal Settlement in Strandfontein.

Video exposes exploitation of a child

Accrding to IOL, in the clip, a local resident appeals desperately for help on behalf of the young girl, alleging that her own parents were behind the abuse. To protect her identity, the video has not been widely circulated by media outlets.

The resident who filmed the appeal said he had confronted the child's father directly. According to him, the father's response was alarming. Rather than showing remorse, the man reportedly said the girl needed to contribute to the household because the family had no income. Community members told the resident the father had gone even further, saying it was acceptable for the child to "sell herself."

The allegations sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing outrage and deep concern for the girl's safety.

CPF acts to have suspects arrested

The case was reported to the Strandfontein Community Policing Forum, which coordinated with authorities to ensure swift action was taken.

CPF chairperson Sandy Schuter confirmed she was personally involved from the moment the case reached her. She said protecting children in vulnerable situations is a responsibility she takes seriously and that she pushed for arrests to happen without delay.

"When this recent, devastating case was brought to my attention, I refused to let go until everyone involved was arrested before sunset," Schuter said.

She stressed that offences against children go beyond harming one individual and damage the broader fabric of a community.

"Justice for our children is non-negotiable, and swift action is the only acceptable standard. Crimes committed against our children do not just injure an individual; they strike at the very heart and soul of our community," she added.

Authorities have not yet released details about the charges or when the case is expected to appear in court.
