Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has thrown his support behind captain Brandon Petersen following a string of costly errors.
Petersen has come under scrutiny after mistakes against Richards Bay, Mamelodi Sundowns and Lamontville Golden Arrows contributed to Chiefs dropping points.
Speaking at Chiefs Village in Naturena on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, Da Cruz revealed that he had spoken to Petersen about his recent performances. The French coach, however, made it clear that he still has faith in his goalkeeper.
“Petersen also made mistakes last season, but he also had a good campaign last season by securing a lot of points for his team. He is our captain and we trust him, I also spoke to him this past weekend about this,” Da Cruz said as reported by SABC Sport.

Da Cruz's comments suggest Petersen's position will not be changed simply because of his recent errors.
Kaizer Chiefs injury update
The coach also provided an update on the squad's injury situation ahead of Sunday's match against Siwelele.
Several players have returned to training and match action, while Rushwin Dortley has featured in friendlies after recovering from a long-term injury.
However, Flavio Silva, Langelihle Phili, Thabiso Monyane and Inacio Miguel remain sidelined. Da Cruz said the medical team was working to get the injured players back to full fitness while stressing his confidence in the squad.

Siwelele clash awaits
Chiefs will host Siwelele at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday. Da Cruz is yet to use the venue, but he is not concerned about the unfamiliar surroundings. Chiefs will hold a match-day-minus-one training session at the stadium to prepare for the fixture.
Chiefs will be under pressure to turn their recent dropped points into a positive result when they face Siwelele.
With Da Cruz continuing to back Petersen, the goalkeeper will have another opportunity to repay that faith between the posts.
Brian Baloyi raises questions over Brandon Petersen
Briefly News previously reported that Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi had raised concerns over Brandon Petersen's performances after the goalkeeper made another costly mistake.
The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper also questioned Petersen's approach between the posts and suggested there could be more pressure on the Chiefs captain with competition waiting behind him.
