Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has responded to the pressure to deliver trophies this season, saying he cannot predict what the club will achieve and insisting that his focus remains on the next match.
Da Cruz refuses to make trophy promises
FARPost reports that Bobby Motaung recently said that Chiefs must challenge for every available trophy, including the Betway Premiership. He said the new coach knows he “has to win the league” and “has to win cups”.
Da Cruz, who replaced Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef during the off-season, offered a more measured response.

“I’m not a magician like a reporter. I cannot say what we will achieve, but the most important thing for us is to keep the mentality of working and listening,” Da Cruz said.
The French coach added that the team remains ambitious but wants to concentrate on achieving immediate results rather than making long-term predictions.
Chiefs already facing an early test
Chiefs currently sit third in the league behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Their campaign, however, suffered an early setback when they were eliminated from the MTN8 following a 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows.
Da Cruz said the club would assess its position as the season progresses.
“If we are in a good position, we’ll try to achieve as best as we can,” he said.
Chiefs will face Siwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday as they look to return to winning ways after a 2-2 draw against Richards Bay FC.
The result could provide another early indication of how Da Cruz’s team is responding to the pressure surrounding Amakhosi.
