Siya Kolisi Injury: Rassie Erasmus Gives Update After Springboks Beat Argentina

  • Springbok captain Siya Kolisi left the field after only 24 minutes of Saturday's Test against Argentina with a hamstring injury
  • Kolisi had only recently returned from a separate hamstring problem that kept him out of the Nations Championship
  • Rassie Erasmus addressed the injury concern after the Springboks' 17-10 victory over Los Pumas in Buenos Aires

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has offered an update on captain Siya Kolisi following a worrying injury exit during Saturday's 17-10 win over Argentina in Buenos Aires.

Kolisi departed Estadio José Amalfitani after just 24 minutes of the victory over Los Pumas, having sustained a hamstring injury. The setback is particularly concerning given the flanker had only recently returned from a different hamstring problem that ruled him out of the Nations Championship earlier this season.

Erasmus Downplays Kolisi's Setback

Speaking to the media after the final whistle, Erasmus was cautiously optimistic about the extent of the damage.

"Siya injured his hamstring, the other hamstring, but it doesn't look too bad," the Springbok director of rugby said.

Erasmus also took a moment to acknowledge Kolisi's contribution before the injury forced his hand.

"I thought Siya was really dynamic with his carries and his clean-outs," he added.

Before leaving the field, the Springbok skipper had shown his characteristic physicality, making an impression with both his ball-carrying and defensive work during his brief time on the pitch.

Esterhuizen Also Leaves Field Late

Kolisi was not the only Springbok to exit prematurely. Inside centre André Esterhuizen was withdrawn approximately 15 minutes before the final whistle after being subjected to a Head Injury Assessment (HIA). No further details were provided regarding his condition following the protocol.

Despite the injury disruptions, South Africa held on to secure a narrow but important victory, winning 17-10 in what proved to be a tightly contested encounter against the Pumas on home soil.
