After joining the GNU at the last minute, Al Jama-ah now wants to persuade its former progressive caucus colleagues to join the unity government.

The Democratic Alliance reportedly demanded that it terminate the contracts for directors-general in departments it will govern and probe every tender awarded.

The Democratic Alliance's GNU partner the African National Congress called on the DA to address the racism allegations against DA MP Ian Cameron.

ATM president Vuyo Zungula said the departure of three parties from the Progressive Caucus to join the Government of National Unity had not weakened the formation.

As President Cyril Ramaphosa prepares to unveil a new Cabinet soon, the DA wants at least 10 of its MPs and name party leader John Steenhuisen as deputy president.

In his newletter, the Ramaphosa said the commitment by political parties to work together will generate a great deal of goodwill that should not be squandered.

EFF commander-in-chief Julius Malema has again stressed his party's position about joining the national unity government, making some stiff demands.

Rise Mzansi's leader, Songezo Zibi, said: "It is very important that we get into an arrangement in Parliament where we're going to be able to make a difference."

The leader of the United Democratic Movement, Bantu Holomisa, accepted the African National Congress's invitation to join the Government of National Unity.
