Zimbabwean prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa has broken his silence following the death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lulu, who perished when their helicopter went down near Marondera, Zimbabwe, on the evening of 30 September 2026. The cleric's heartfelt but pointed message has drawn significant attention across social media.
Speaking on behalf of UFI Church and his family, Makandiwa extended his condolences to the Chivayo family, their crew members who also did not survive, and the Johane Masowe church leadership. The helicopter reportedly went down in a rural area at around 5 p.m. as the couple was flying to Harare. Family spokesman Herbert Chivayo confirmed their deaths, while police acknowledged the crash without immediately naming those on board. Wicknell would have turned 46 in November.

What made the prophet's statement particularly striking was his disclosure that he had spent time with the couple shortly before their deaths. On 25 September 2026, just five days before the crash, Chivayo and Lulu had hosted Makandiwa for dinner at their home, where the two also held private discussions. Makandiwa described the nature of those conversations as confidential but said he was grateful for the time they shared together.

The prophet also addressed growing public speculation about whether he had seen the tragedy coming.
"I reiterate that I have never seen everything, I don't see everything, and I won't see everything; only God does because he has no gift to see," he wrote.
In a notably poetic tribute, Makandiwa suggested the couple had a sense of awareness about their own mortality, writing that they "knew their time to be taken and desired for that time to be while they were at their best," adding that they had "SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST."

A relationship built on faith and generosity
The bond between Makandiwa and Chivayo had been a visible one in recent months. In August 2026, Chivayo made headlines when he donated US$1 million to Makandiwa's United Family International Church at a public service. Shortly after, he also gifted the prophet and his wife luxury vehicles, fulfilling a promise he had made previously.
In the days leading up to the crash, Chivayo was active in religious circles beyond Makandiwa's congregation, attending the House of Treasures Church Conference led by Apostle Felix Okoh, where he also met with Apostle Joshua Selman.
Makandiwa closed his statement with a scriptural reference from Revelation 14:13: "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, for they rest from their labour and their works follow them," before signing off with: "Remain in His Grace. Amen."
