Kenya's president-elect William Ruto on Friday urged the country's top court to throw out a petition by his rival Raila Odinga that challenged the result of the August 9 election. The IEBC was under heavy pressure to deliver a clean vote after facing sharp criticism over its handling of the August 2017 election, which was also challenged by Odinga.

Angola's ruling party said Friday they held a "comfortable majority" in the country's most competitive elections since independence, amid fears of political turmoil if the opposition contested the final results. "According to preliminary results, we have a comfortable majority," MPLA spokesman Rui Falcao told journalists at the party's headquarters in Luanda.

Germany gave its backing on Thursday to a Moroccan autonomy plan for resolving the Western Sahara conflict, days after the North African country's king urged allies to "clarify their positions". On Saturday, King Mohammed VI called on allies to "clarify" their position on Western Sahara and "unequivocally" back the autonomy plan.
