MIAMI — Five people were killed and several others injured after an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
According to the BCC, Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said the aircraft overran runway 30 at approximately 2 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration identified the plane as a Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft that had been operating a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Several victims were trapped inside vehicles struck by the aircraft and had to be extricated by emergency services, according to officials. It remains unclear whether those who died were passengers aboard the plane or individuals on the ground.

The crash occurred just one week after South Africa's Airlink flyover at DHL Newlands Stadium in Cape Town drew international criticism. The stunt, performed during a Springbok match, was condemned by media outlets — particularly in the United States — as unsafe and a risk to public safety. Many South Africans had pushed back against that criticism, pointing to the country's strong aviation safety record.

Two US pilot dies in plane crash
