Social media was buzzing with celebration as females around the world came around to celebrate themselves on National Girlfriends' Day, a special occasion marked on 1 August of every year.

Although, many may assume that the celebration connotes a day set aside for men to celebrate their lovers, on the contrary, it is a special event for celebrating female friendships and sisterhood.

It is a day that represents the struggle of close-knit relationships between women and girls who grew up together, formed friendships during their time in school, those who work in the same industry and even family members.

Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za previously gathered the report of Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who took out time to celebrate his mum on Mother’s Day.

The music star celebrated his mother and described her as his guardian angel. He expressed that without his mother in his life he did not know where he would have ended up.
