Karabo Mogane was born in Nelspruit, South Africa on 14th August 1991. Although much is not known about his family, he was raised by Mike and Sylvia Mogane. He is also the 8th sibling and the last-born among two brothers and five sisters. Before his debut in the South African Idols, Mogane was at Stellenbosch University studying geoinformatics.
Karabo Idols 2011
Karabo Mogane took part in the 11th season of South African Idols in 2015. The judges were Randall Abrahams, Gareth Cliff, Unathi Msengana, then later Somizi Mhlongo was added to the judging panel. The Season 11 South African Idols Presenter was ProVerb.
The final top 2 contestants were Mmatema Moremi and Karabo Mogane, but Mogane emerged the winner in that season. Ultimately, this created a path to stardom for him in the music industry.
Since the South African Idols began in South Africa, his season had the most votes garnered with 89 million votes. He managed to get 74 million votes throughout the season. The difference with the previous season 10 is very much evident as it had only 24 million votes.
Although he had a large fan base, he did not make a good impression on Idols judge Somizi Mhlongo who referred to Mogane as having a quote on quote “dishwashing-water personality” during his first audition. Nonetheless, he had a strong fanbase that secured the Karabo Mogane Idols win.
After his win at South African Idols 2015, the talented Afro-pop and RnB artist dropped his first new album titled Love is a Verb later that year on 11th December. The album itself consists of 11 Karabo songs.
Over the years, the artist has managed to drop other songs. In 2016, Mogane managed to drop a single Karabo Ngifuna Lo. It was expected to be a hit, but during an unplugged session the following year at his home town, the artist did not get as much love and appreciation as he thought, especially on social media.
He stated that as much as that impacted him negatively, he eventually managed to get over it. He also admitted to being discouraged when he did not get gigs to perform, but the support he had from his family and the musical team got him through that period.
