Somizi Mhlongo is going through the most after announcing the passing of his mother today.

The radio host's mom, Mary Twala, died this morning at Netcare Park Lane hospital in Johannesburg.

Somizi told fans of his mother's passing through a poignant tweet.

He wrote, "My tree has fallen. Lala (Sleep) Ma."

Somizi's husband, Mohale, asked fans for prayers as he pointed out that he'd never seen Somizi so devastated.

He said, "I've never seem my husband like this. Please pray for us guys, I really need to be 3strong for him."

The hashtag #RIPMaryTwala trended for most of the day as people payed tribute to the veteran performer.

Christo Thurston wrote, "One of Mzansi's greatest actresses has said goodbye to us. I am convinced that she is now working on an amazing performance to bring smiles to all the angels in heaven. You were a humble soul with a heart of gold. We will miss you."

Last year, Briefly.co.za reported that Mama Mary had received a presidential honour for her contribution to the arts.

The veteran star had been on Mzansi screens for decades, and she'd been seen in TV shows like Skwizas, Muvhango and Hopeville to name a few.
