She was born in Harare on June 18, 1993. Not much about Joana Mamombe family is known, just that her mother’s name is Kudzai Chiwanza. She was raised by a single mother and grew up in a Christian family devoted to the Dutch Reformed Church of Zimbabwe.

Joana Mamombe education

She went to Monte casino girls High School where she graduated in 2011. She later joined Chinhoyi University of technology and graduated with a degree in Biotechnology. She served as a gender officer for the Zimbabwe National Students Union while she was still on campus. After graduating, she enrolled in the University of Bergen in Norway to study Molecular Biology at the masters level.

Joana Mamombe married the fellow activist Mfundo Mlilo, who is currently the Executive Director of the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA), an amalgamation of residents’ associations in the capital city.

The Harare West MP fell into controversy after she was accused of having an affair with Andrew Manongore, who is a prominent ZANU-PF member and businessman. Mambombe was tracked down and it was confirmed that she and Manongore had been in a romantic relationship. Manongore came out to say that he had not known that she was married and that she was using his cars since hers broke down.

Career

She joined politics in 2018 after completing her studies abroad and returning to her homeland. The same year, she vied for the Member of Parliament seat for Harare West, which she won after becoming the youngest MP in Zimbabwe. She was sworn into office on June 30, 2018.

Joana Mamombe found

On May 13, 2020, it was reported that Mamombe together with the other two activists, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, were arrested by the police after leading a protest and were later abducted from the police. They went missing for two nights until they were found on a roadside on the morning of Friday 15 May 2020, about 60 miles away from Harare, and they were badly injured and traumatised. Joana Mamombe has reported that she has had injuries arising from being pushed out of a moving vehicle.

On Joana Mamombe latest news, the Harare West MP was among the three women who were recently charged with lying about being tortured by the police after being arrested. Pictures shared on social media showed Joana Mamombe in hospital together with the activists Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, all whom had various injuries and alleged that police had subjected one of them to sexual harassment.
