Bonginkosi Madikizela qualifications controversy
The Mzansi politician came under harsh scrutiny in April 2021 after it was alleged that he lied about graduating with a Bcom degree. This led to his suspension as MEC for Transport and Public works for 14 days from 15th April 2021 to allow the DA’s Federal Legal Commission to carry out its investigations.
He also voluntarily stepped aside as the DA’s Western Cape provincial leader for two weeks, and his deputy Albert Fritz became the acting provincial leader.
Following the scandal, he admitted to lying about his qualification and that being a degree holder was never a qualification for a politician in South Africa.
