Nigerian Superstar Davido has commended the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) for adding the Afrobeats genre to one of the numerous categories

The VMAs took West Africans by surprise after Afrobeats made it this year to the list of the genre-specific category, which includes Latin (2006) and K-pop (2019), rock (1989), alternative (1991), R&B (1993) and pop and hip-hop (both 1999).

Rema won the inaugural ‘Best Aftobeats’ category with his Calm Down remix featuring Selena Gomez.

The hotshot beat other Afrobeats contemporaries like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Ayra Starr, Fireboy DML and Asake to clinch the inaugural award.

Speaking on the honourable recognition, Davido noted that he has known for a long time that the West African sound would be accepted internationally.

The DMW boss narrated the making of his viral hit Unavailable and how he had stayed true to his roots despite having several other cultural influences.

Davido reaches out to the man who remixed Electricity

In another story reported by Briefly News that, a young Nigerian man who remixed Davido's Electricity song and made it into what the track would sound like if it had Rema as a featured artist is now living his dream.

After his TikTok remix video of the song went viral, he shared a clip showing a screenshot of the chat he had with Davido before the singer called him.
