Why Jada did not expect Will to call her 'wife'

Jada Pinkett Smith is on tour to promote her memoir, Worthy, and is dropping bombshell upon bombshell. The Red Table Talk host said she was surprised when Will referred to her as his wife during the infamous Oscars slap.

Nicknamed one of Hollywood's golden boys, the father of three was loved and could do no wrong on camera before he slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

"Keep my wife's name out your f**** mouth," he said.

However, Will apologised to his fans and Chris, noting that what he did was in bad taste. Reacting to the incident nearly a year later, Jada noted that she was surprised that he called her his wife.

She told NBC News:

"First of all, I’m really shocked, because mind you, I’m not there. We haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time.”

Are Jada Pinkett and Will Smith working on divorce?

In another story reported by Briefly News, the mother of two had previously disclosed that she and Will had separated, but they did not file for divorce.

Jada noted that they have been living separate lives since 2016:

“We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got a deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us."

She also said that while considering a legal divorce, she hasn't been able to bring herself to it.

"I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. I haven't been able to break that promise."
