Popular entrepreneur and philanthropist, Malcolm X, will face an extended stay in police custody as the state has successfully opposed his bail request. This decision came during his initial court appearance at the Alexandra Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Malcolm X appears in court over fraud charges
Businessman Malcolm X was seen in court together with members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), all of whom are facing allegations of fraudulent solicitation exceeding R500,000. This ultimately resulted in their arrest by the Hawks, just last week.

According to ZiMoja, the three police officers are Desmond Campbell Kekana, James Mpho Sekhaolela, and Raymond Mphuwa Mokaile.
Why was Malcolm X arrested?
According to Phindi Mjonondwane, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused individuals are suspected of requesting a bribe amounting to R580,000 from a complainant in exchange for preventing her arrest.
Mjonondwane further explained that three officials visited the complainant at her residence, initially inquiring about her passport, which they claimed had fraudulent immigration stamps. Subsequently, they proceeded to apprehend her.
During their interrogation, this trio allegedly demanded a sum of R2 million for her release, with Malcolm X purportedly acting as the intermediary in facilitating this payment.
The case was remanded to 26 October for the bail application to be heard.
