Makhadzi has once again landed in another battle with her former label, Open Mic Productions.
Having spoken publicly about not being paid a cent for her past work, the Limpopo confided in a famous gossip blogger about her current predicament with the controversial label.
Maphepha Ndaba shared a message on 26 August 2025 allegedly from Makhadzi, in which she vented about a recent incident where Open Mic Productions had been collecting her royalties without her knowledge:
"I just found out that my old management at Open Mic opened a new company in partnership with Mokima (Virgin Music) and has been collecting my publishing royalties on my behalf from SAMRO without my knowledge."

The gossipmonger went on to highlight the singer's frustration of having her earnings taken from her.
Makhadzi's anger adds to her years-long battle with the problematic record label, which allegedly stems from the label auto-renewing the singer's contract in 2023 when she planned to leave, thus binding her for another year.

Responding to her allegations in a statement, Mokima Music & Publishing clarified the nature of their business with Makhadzi's original publisher, Nazwo Digital, effectively distancing themselves from the ongoing case:
"We are in possession of a signed publishing agreement between Nazwo Digital and the composer, Makhadzi. In accordance with this agreement, Mokima Music & Publishing has lawfully collected publishing royalties on behalf of Nazwo Digital for their catalogue. All royalties due have been distributed to Nazwo Digital as per our agreement."
Nazwo Digital, according to B2BHint, was registered in 2019 and later deregistered due to annual return non-compliance. It is headed by directors Makabongwe Lionel Jamela and Molau Shady Rammala, the founders of OMP.
Despite her grievances, Makhadzi is not the only star whose time with Open Mic did not bear fruit, but instead left them without a penny from their past work.
Nomcebo Zikode recently took the label to court for her overdue royalties. And as fans digest Makhadzi's allegations, many continue to question the complexities of the music industry.
